It's finally happened – your best friend/sister/cousin/son got engaged, and you're looking to celebrate the happy couple. Here are our four favorite spots to throw an engagement bash in San Francisco, with delicious food and drink and a variety of styles to suit every taste.
Thirsty Bear. We love this SOMA hotspot for lunch, dinner, and after work drinks. It's also a great place for a party — the spacious Spanish-style tapas joint and brew pub has a mezzanine area dedicated for special events. Enjoy a selection of small plates, platters of paella, and Thirsty Bear's own excellent microbrews (their cocktails are worth sampling, too).
Pauline's Pizza. This cozy Mission restaurant is a veritable neighborhood staple, and has the longtime love of regulars to prove it. Rent out the upstairs area for a pizza party the whole family can enjoy — tuck into a selection of their seasonal pies, salads, and vegetable sides, and wash it all down with their food-friendly house wine.
La Nebbia. This temple of cured meats and Italian wines in Noe Valley is just the spot for an intimate, celebratory engagement dinner — sample a spread of meats, cheeses, and marvelously executed Italian small plates, with thoughtful paired wines to match.
Southern Pacific Brewing. This one's for the couple with too many friends to invite. We love this Mission microbrewery for parties of all kinds — the massive space makes it easy to stake out a few tables (with outside seating, if the weather allows!), and the food, beer, and cocktails are all well-priced, easily shareable, and delicious. Or: reserve the whole upstairs mezzanine for a dedicated party space. Don't be afraid to get loud when making your celebratory toasts, too — this is the kind of venue where everyone can simply kick back and enjoy.
